MORE POWER, GREATER RANGE, CLEANER EXHAUST & CLEANER TRANSOM – THE Fitch® FUEL CATALYST
WHAT IS THE Fitch® FUEL CATALYST?
The Filch Fuel Catalyst is a remarkable fuel treatment device with just one purpose: to improve the combustion process in your engine,
When your engine burns fuel more efficiently, consumption is reduced and you save money, Enthusiastically endorsed by sailors, power-boaters, fishermen, tugboat pilots, ferry captains, and fleet operators, it can be expected to yield fuel savings.
When you install a Filch unit on your vessel, you can look forward to increased horsepower and speed, cleaner exhaust, a significant reduction in fuel-soot contamination in the oil, and less overall wear on engine components – meaning lower maintenance and repair costs as well as longer engine life. The Fitch® Fuel Catalyst will also reduce algae growth and diesel bug in the fuel tank.
When your engine burns fuel more efficiently, you save money because you burn less.
In larger engines, the catalyst unit is easily installed in-line between the fuel tank and the engine. In smaller engines, the unit is simply dropped into the fuel tank. Regardless of unit size, it will continuously treat tank alter tank of diesel or gasoline for up to 5,000 hours of running time, All Fitch® units meet or exceed Coast Guard standards.
IS IT AN ADDITIVE?
No. The catalyst does not put anything into the fuel. This is proven by the fact that absolutely none of the materials that make up the catalyst can be found in the fuel or in the exhaust. This is a catalyst which affects the structure of the fuel, but it does not become a part of it.
In fact, using a fuel additive in conjunction with the Fitch® Fuel Catalyst may inhibit performance, because the additive may coat the catalyst and prevent it from treating the fuel
The Fitch® Fuel Catalyst cannot damage your engine in anyway. After 5,000 hours (the life of the catalyst) it looks, measures, and weighs the same as when new, providing further proof that it does not dissolve or degrade into the fuel. That is why, under 40 CFR 85.2114, a “dealer may not deny warranty coverage for an engine based on the presence of the fuel catalyst.”
HOW DOES IT WORK?
Both gasoline and diesel fuel possess elements that cause ignition problems. Some of these elements burn loo fast, causing pre ignition; and some burn too slowly, causing delayed ignition, smoke, and carbon build-up. It is these troublemakers on which the Fitch® Fuel Catalyst works,
“… it is very clear that the catalyst is changing the fuel composition, and in the direction of higher octane …”
- U. S. Department of Energy
Oak Ridge National Laboratory
The catalytic process is similar to that used in the petroleum industry to make higher-octane gasolines. Through an electrochemical reaction, the alloy in the catalyst further refines the fuel to reduce the elements that cause pro- and post-ignition, resulting in improved combustion.
The former troublemakers are thus converted to energy producers rather than to excess carbon and smoke.
HOW WILL I KNOW ITS WORKING?
Establish .a base line for fuel consumption before installing the catalyst. You should begin lo see savings the first time you refuel.
Even before refuelling, most boat owners find that the engine runs more smoothly, and quietly right away. Many also notice an immediate increase in power (RPM). The transom stays much cleaner, and the ensign doesn’t turn grey with soot.
The catalyst does not put anything into the fuel and cannot harm your engine in any way.
WHAT PROOF IS THERE THAT IT WORKS?
Testing by the U. S. Department of Energy’s Oak Ridge concluded that “…it is very clear that the catalyst is changing the fuel composition, and in the direction of higher octane, higher energy-fuel constituents, for all … fuels analysed.” (December 12, 1994). This is the first and only time that Oak Ridge has confirmed the performance of a product of this type. The Fitch® Catalyst is also the only product of its kind to be certified by the Environmental Protection Agency. **
More than thirty additional formal tests conducted by universities, independent test laboratories, governmental and municipal agencies, and commercial fleets – as well as feedback from thousands of satisfied users – all confirm the product’s performance.
WHAT SIZE UNIT SHOULD I INSTALL?
The same catalyst elements are used to treat the fuel in an outboard motor and the engine of an ocean going ship. The only difference is the amount of catalyst needed and the type of delivery system (drop-in or in-line). The greater the fuel flow, the more catalyst required. The correct unit size is determined by the engine’s displacement.
Units are available for 1/4-horsepower to 10,000-horsepower, 2-stroke and 4-stroke, gas and diesel engines. If you’re in doubt regarding which size is right for your engine, choose the larger one. It is impossible to over-treat the fuel, but it is possible to under-treat the fuel.
WHAT WON’T IT DO?
The Fitch® Fuel Catalyst is not a cure for a sick engine. If the engine is poorly maintained, out of tune, or has a mechanical defect, the catalyst cannot treat those sorts of problems, and in fact an engine’s malfunctioning may inhibit the effect of the catalyst. It is always best to have the engine tuned prior to installing the unit.
Fitch® Fuel Catalysts are available not only for marine engines of all sizes, but also for all outdoor power equipment, tractors, automobiles, and trucks.
Testing by the Marine Corporation of America
on a 270-hp. Mercruiser yielded a
2-horsepower increase in performance,5% cooler
exhaust, and a 10% savings in fuel consumption.
“After two years of testing, this is the only
product that Packard has recommended for all
engine installations in our line of boats.”
- A.W. Finki, President/CEO Packard, Inc.
Testing on a Volvo engine yielded a 5.9% increase
in fuel efficiency. Testing on a Mercedes engine
yielded an 8.3% increase in fuel economy.
